Developers of a new manufacturing plant expected to bring 700 jobs to Detroit will break ground on the $95 million building today at 12:30 p.m.
Mayor Mike Duggan is expected to join Flex-N-Gate owner Shadid Khan and other stakeholders at the I-94 Industrial Park, 7000 Georgia St. The new plant will be built with Detroit-based contractors, according to a city press release.

Councilman Scott Benson, representatives from the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, and community members will also appear at the groundbreaking.

Flex-N-Gate, a supplier providing engineering, testing, stamping and assembly, is taking over a vacant 30-acre on the city's east side near Georgia and Helen streets. The plant will supply parts to Ford Motor Company.
Khan said last year the project will create at least 400 and up to 650 new jobs in Detroit over the next three years; at full capacity, up to 750 total jobs could be added.
