Hamtramck police looking for gunman after 2 teens shot during fight

13-year-old, 14-year-old expected to recover after being shot Sunday night

HAMTRAMCK, Mich. – Hamtramck police are asking for the public's help to find the gunman who shot two boys during a fight on Sunday night.

Police said the fight broke out at about 11 p.m. in the 12000 block of Grand Haven Street.

The 13-year-old was shot in the buttocks and the 14-year-old was shot in the ankle, police said. They are both recovering at Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit.

"I just heard the shots," neighborhood patrolman Clarence Washington said. "You want to harm someone just because their a kid. A kid is a kid. They don't know no better."

Washington volunteers as a security patrolman in the public housing area near I-75 and Caniff Street. He said there was a party going on when the violence erupted and the two children were shot.

"I heard the music and the activities," Washington said. "It hurts me more than anything because this is our future. This is our young generation that's coming up. It's a sad thing because this generation here don't care. They don't care about nothing and nobody."

Both boys underwent surgery Monday.

Police said no arrests have been made in the shooting -- and they are asking any witnesses with information to call 313-876-7800.
