Bedford Township teen who was 'missing' now charged with filing false report

Hayley Turner could face up to 4 years in prison

TEMPERANCE, Mich. – Bedford Township resident Hayley Turner was charged in court Friday with filing a false police report.

The 18-year-old could face up to four years in prison and a $2,000 fine if she is found guilty of the charge.

Turner went missing in August when she claimed to have been abducted while returning from a video rental store late at night. Turner was talking on the phone with a friend and said that she saw a man lying in the road and went to investigate. She then claimed the man had a gun before the phone was disconnected.

The search for Turner lasted one day before witnesses say they saw her near a road in Ecorse. When police talked to the teen, she claimed to have been abducted before jumping out of a moving car.

But after questioning, investigators determined that there was no abduction involved in the incident.

If she is found guilty, Turner could also be responsible for reimbursing  local governments for the funds used during the search for her.
