Gas explosion may be to blame for three house fires on Detroit's east side

DETROIT – A two-alarm fire in a home injured one man and spread to other homes on Detroit’s east side on Wednesday evening.

The fire started in a home on W. Margaret Street near John R Street.

The force of the explosion shook the neighborhood and the flames spread to two other homes.

Neighbors said a man in his 40s lived there and was inside the home when the explosion happened. According to witnesses, the man jumped out of a window to get away from the fire.

The man was burned from the chest up. He was taken to the hospital.

The flames leaped over to Brenda McGee’s home. She and her children got out and firefighters went in.

Investigators believe there may have been a gas explosion. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
