Police searching for 3rd suspect in shooting that killed infant on Detroit's west side

Jose Jackson, Christopher Long Jr. taken into custody in Lincoln Park

DETROIT – Two people are in custody after a 6-month-old girl was shot and killed Saturday afternoon on Detroit’s west side.

The shooting happened at Winthrop Street and Clarita Avenue.

A shooter pulled up to the house on the city's west side and fired several shots at the home in the 18000 block of Winthrop Street.

"I heard the gunshots all the way down the street," Tia Murray said.

Murray got in her car. What greeted her was sheer panic.

"All I heard was, 'My baby, my baby has been shot,'" Murray said.

Murray's fast action wasn't enough. A 6-month-old baby, Miracle Murray, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A 4-month-old child and an 11-month-old child weren't hit, including Kyra Street's daughter, Serenity.

"I'm blessed that she's OK because it could have been her," Street said.

A 24-year-old man was also shot and is expected to survive. He was outside the home with the three children at the time of the shooting.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig said there's a connection between Saturday's shooting and the shooting that killed a 3-year-old baby on Easter Sunday.

"There is a gang nexus," Craig said. "We believe that these individuals are connected to a local street gang."

Police were looking for 24-year-old Jose Jackson (Pictured Left).

Jackson is believed to be connected to the Easter Sunday shooting that took the life of a 3-year-old girl. He was arrested, but later released.

Police were also looking for Christopher Long Jr. (Pictured Right).

Saturday afternoon, Jackson and Long were taken into custody in Lincoln Park. Police are still searching for another man wanted in connection to the shooting who has not been identified.

DPD sources told Local 4 News they raided the home where Saturday's shooting took place in connection with that 3-year-old's death.
