Inkster man struggles to recover after getting caught in stump grinder

INKSTER, Mich. – Friends of an Inkster man who got his leg caught in a stump grinder earlier this month say he faces a long up-hill battle on his road to recovery.

The Watson family are best friends to John and Sarah Lillis. They say John would do anything for his friends, and that's why he was helping his neighbor the day of the accident.

"I couldn't sleep for two days, just knowing what he went through and that he's got two kids and I have two kids, so it kind of hit home," said Robert Watson.

John was grinding tree stumps when the machine got ahold of his pant leg and cut him. He was rushed to a hospital in critical condition. He's had seven reconstructive surgeries and doctors say he will need a dozen more.
