DETROIT – United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seized 76 pounds of marijuana Wednesday from a truck at the Ambassador Bridge.
A spokesman with the CBP public affairs office said the 56-year-old truck driver, who is a United States citizen, claimed he was carrying a shipment of auto parts when he arrived at the Fort Street Cargo Facility. His truck underwent an x-ray examination during which CBP officers found unusual shapes in the rear of the trailer.

Two large duffel bags with 68 bundles of a green leafy substance were found in the back of the truck trailer. Field testing determined the substance was marijuana.
Officials said the driver was a member of CBP’s Free and Secure Trade (FAST) trusted trader program.
“The Free and Secure Trade program affords low risk drivers to move through customs between the United States and Canada with minimal delay.” said John Nowak, acting port director in Detroit, in a news release. “Violations will result in immediate revocation and in this case, prosecution to the fullest extent of the law."
The marijuana was seized and the driver was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Task Force Officers for further investigation.
