Uncovering hidden cameras: How easy are they to spot?

DETROIT – As we enter spring break season, AirBnB made a major change in hopes of making customers feel more secure.

The company is banning the use of indoor security cameras starting April 30. The San Francisco-based online rental platform said it is seeking to “simplify” its security camera policy while prioritizing privacy. It previously allowed cameras in common areas that were disclosed before booking, but not all rentals follow that rule.

How easy is it to find hidden cameras?

The Local 4 investigative crew set up secret cameras in a Downtown Detroit apartment for Karen Drew to seek out.

Local 4 crime and safety expert Darnell Blackburn said people should look around to see if things have been placed in odd places. You can use painter’s tape to cover up anything you think is suspicious or take those items that might worry you and put them in a drawer.

“If it looks odd or strange, just check it out,” Blackburn said.
