Robbers kick in door, tie up 92-year-old woman in Southgate

Southgate police say men stole jewelry, furs and woman's 2001 Ford Taurus

SOUTHGATE, Mich. – The Local 4 Defenders won't identify the 92-year-old woman for her own safety. Her story is heartbreaking.

Two men kicked in the side steel door to Southgate home early Wednesday morning. They tied her up and cleaned out her home, walking away with precious jewelry and furs.

Before leaving, the men grabbed the keys to the woman's vehicle -- a black 2001 Ford Taurus with Michigan license plate BVK 7800 and VIN 1FAFP53U81G258962.

Police believe the men took the vehicle out joyriding.

"I had some beautiful pearls and earrings ... they took all of that," she said. "Three drawers of jewelry. I didn't want them to hurt me, and they didn't, thank God."

The woman was able to get herself free and call police.

Both men were described as black and in their 20s or 30s. One of them was described as clean cut.

Anyone with information on this robbery or the stolen vehicle is asked to contact Southgate police.
