Wayne County Morgue releases names of unclaimed bodies

DETROIT – The names of more than 140 unclaimed bodies at the Wayne County Morgue have been released as the morgue prepares to bury them free of charge.

The Local 4 Defenders uncovered how a lack of money led to mass burials -- as many as four bodies buried on top of each other. A group of funeral home directors is trying to ensure this never happens again. They are putting up the cash to bury all of the bodies, as well as any unclaimed bodies in the future -- in real caskets and in individual plots.

The burials will happen soon and families are invited to attend. Military veterans will receive full military services.
