Jane Bashara's mother opens up after verdict

ROSEVILLE, Mich. – Jane Bashara's mother says she is feeling a little bit of everything.

"Betrayal, sadness, anger, loss, everything," Lorraine Engelbrecht said.

Nearly three years after her daughter was killed, a jury convicted Jane's husband, Bob, of murder in her death.

"I've been betrayed. I liked Bob. I thought he was an OK husband and father and it was all show and tell. He said they had an open marriage, I call it a double life," Engelbrecht said.

Jane Bashara was strangled at the couple's Grosse Pointe Park home by a handyman in 2012. Authorities said her husband arranged to have her killed so he could pursue a life with other women.

"I was sure he did it, but yet, could they convince the jury that he did it? So, there was doubt and yet there wasn't. I don't know. I thrashed it over both ways for three years almost," Engelbrecht said.

The still grieving mother said she doesn't understand why Bob Bashara didn't leave everyone behind to pursue the life he wanted. Instead, her life and the life of Jane's two children have been changed forever.

"There will never be completely closure for us. We will always miss her."

Bob Bashara already is serving time for seeking to have the handyman killed.
