Jessica Smith is from Melvindale, Mich., and got her start in inline skating before switching to short track speed skating.
She also played ice hockey to help with her inline skating training.
Smith is close friends with Kelly Gunther, a long track speed skater.
The two met while competing in inline skating in metro Detroit and both are going to the Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.
