LINCOLN PARK, Mich. – Two men charged in the brutal kidnapped and sexual assault of a woman in Lincoln Park appeared in court Tuesday.
Fernando DeLon Anderson, 24, and Fernando Delon Anderson, 19, both of Detroit, are cousins who share the same name. The elder Anderson stood expressionless Tuesday in court while his younger cousin cried throughout most of the hearing. At one point, the 19-year-old's attorney wiped away his tears.
The two are charged with kidnapping and rape. The defense asked for their bond to be lowered following a recommendation by pretrial services.
"Your honor, we would be opposed to that motion. First of all, given the nature of these offenses. These are life offenses, capital offense, serious charges," said assistant prosecuting attorney Kavita Uppal.
Lincoln Park said a 23-year-old woman was abducted at gunpoint in March outside a Walgreens at Southfield and Fort. The victim told police both men took turns raping her while they drove around the city.
During his interrogation, the elder Anderson admitted to the crime, prosecutors said.
"(He) fully inculpates the (19-year-old) co-defendant and in extreme detail describes all of his actions playing the leadership role in this, but also incriminates himself as well," said Uppal.
In the weeks since their arrests, a second woman has come forward with similar allegations against the younger defendant, the prosecution said.
"She has come forward, when she saw him on the TV, and indicated similar incidents happened to her," said Uppal.
Prosecutors also said both men are a flight risk and they have missed court dates in the past. The judge denied the request to lower their bond.
Both men will remain behind bars. They are due back in court next week.
