Large sinkhole opens up on Detroit's west side

Tireman Avenue is closed west of Greenfield

DETROIT – A large sinkhole opened up Thursday on Tireman Avenue at Greenfield Road on Detroit's west side.

The sinkhole is the result of a collapsed sewer pipe, according to the Detroit Water & Sewerage Department (DWSD). Crews are on the scene, but the city didn't say how long it would take to fix.

The Eastbound lanes of Tireman are closed west of Greenfield because of the hole. The city said there are no reports of homes or businesses being affected by the sinkhole and there is "no reason at this time to believe that water quality is diminished in the area."
