Local Star Wars artist shoots movie in Macomb Township backyard

MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Local 4 first introduced you to Macomb Township's Matt Busch in May of 2015.

He and his wife Lin Zy are both official illustrator and artists for Stars Wars and now they can add “movie maker” to their resume.

"For 20 years I've had the idea to make a sci-fi film of my own," Busch said. "It's time for me to become the next George Lucas right?"

He's hoping to do that with Aladdin 3477. Actors from all over the world auditioned for the film during the casting call -- 10,000 to be exact.

"It's the story of Aladdin set 1,462 years in the future," Busch said.

Part of the futuristic film is being shot on a sound stage in Clinton Township the other part in Busch’s own backyard at his Macomb Twp. home.

“It took us three months to build the set,” said Busch. “The movie is based in Hong Kong and we left no detail unturned, we utilized our yard to its maximum.”

Busch, the writer and director, started making the movie where it all started for him, on paper. The movie is expected to be released in 2018.

"We are making one heck of an amazing movie," Busch said. “I am so proud we are filming it all here in Macomb County.”
