Detroit police call off pursuit but stolen vehicle crashes, injuring 2

2 injured when stolen vehicle crashes near West Warren Avenue, 24th Street in Detroit

DETROIT – Detroit police were in pursuit of a stolen vehicle Wednesday night when it took off and crashed in the area of West Warren Avenue and 24th Street on the city's west side.

Police had called off the pursuit but the suspect's vehicle fled and minutes later struck another vehicle, injuring the driver and passenger of the second vehicle.

Detroit firefighters had to cut the people out of the vehicle with the Jaws of Life. A 22-year-old Wayne State University student suffered serious injuries.

Police say the suspect also was hurt. A woman in his car had jumped out while the vehicle was moving.

Police say he had drugs inside. He was arrested and treated for injuries.
