MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – Macomb County Executive Mark A. Hackel has signed a local state of emergency declaration to help get the county up and running faster since a fire caused damage to a key part of the county's IT, Internet and phone systems.
The Old County Building at 10 N. Main Street in Mount Clemens caught fire Wednesday and will remain closed until further notice.

Departments in the Administration Building, located at 1 S. Main Street in Mount Clemens are continuing to operate, however, some in a limited capacity.

"There is going to be a relocation of people for an extended period of time," Hackel said. "No one is going back into that building until there's a complete overhaul."
Hackel said plans are being made right now to relocate county workers displaced by the fire to other facilities. Additionally, the County is working on purchasing its primary, temporary backup server to get the County back online, restoring both internet and phone services to their fullest function.
Hackel added the County has been working on updating the Old County Building for some time now.
"Although this situation will create a temporary disruption of county services, it prompts a tremendous opportunity for us to expedite the process of upgrading our facilities and IT systems," said Hackel.
