Macomb County executive chases down suspected drunken driver

Mark Hackel served as Macomb County sheriff before taking office

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – Nowadays Mark HACKEL serves as Macomb County executive, but six years ago, he was the sheriff of Macomb County.

On Tuesday evening, he came across a drunk driver on the road. He said the driver was in a pickup truck and slammed into a minivan and then sped off. Hackled decided to pursue him.

Hackel called dispatchers and began speaking with one of the dispatchers that he has known for a long time. He told her what he was seeing and said the driver was swerving and turning down Foss Road and then 25 Mile Road. 

The suspect then drove to a makeshift football field on Broughton and the sheriff spoke with him. The suspect tried asking for mercy, but Hackel waited until police arrived to arrest the suspect. 

The suspect is a 41 year old man from Shelby Township and had a .25 blood alcohol level.
