Man dies after being shot by Trenton police officer

Man, 18, accused of attacking officer with lawn mower blade

TRENTON, Mich. – An 18-year-old man who attacked Trenton police officers with a lawnmower blade and was shot by an officer has died.

The shooting happened around 4:30 p.m. Thursday at a home in the 2800 block of Longmeadow Drive near West Road.

Police confirmed to Local 4 Friday morning that the man had died.

Police said they responded to reports of a young man who was highly agitated and, after officers arrived at the home, the man attacked them with the blade.

Police said officers first tried to subdue him with a Taser. When that didn't work, they fired one gunshot.

Police said an officer was injured in his hand by the blade and has been treated for his injury.

"I saw a police officer holding another police officer's hand up. It was wrapped in a towel, a bloody towel," said neighbor Eric Lloyd. "We saw them take the young man out on a stretcher."
