Man charged with shooting, killing 12-year-old Detroit boy

Kenis Green hit by gunfire Saturday morning; Alvin Demetrius Conwell charged with murder

DETROIT – A 33-year-old Detroit man has been charged with shooting a 12-year-old boy to death and also wounding a man outside a home over the weekend.

Kenis Green died when he was shot in the head early Saturday morning while on a porch with other family member for a birthday party.

Gregory Owens, 25, was also hit by gunfire and is hospitalized.

Alvin Demetrius Conwell is charged with first-degree murder, two counts assault with intent to murder and felony firearm.

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy said Conwell allegedly got into an argument with Owens outside the home, left but then returned and opened fire.

Conwell will be arraigned Thursday afternoon.

The boy's mother, Sunsearae Hall, said her son was never the target of the violence.

"It's ridiculous. It doesn't make sense," she said.

Hall said her son was looking forward to starting the 8th grade this week.

"He loved listening to music and playing football," she said. "He loved being around his family."
