Man dies in fire on Huron Street in Pontiac

69-year-old Gladwin Dale Evans found dead in home

PONTIAC, Mich. – A 69-year-old man was found dead inside his Pontiac home Wednesday morning after firefighters went in to put out a fire.

The fire was reported at about 8 a.m. at the home on West Huron Street, near M-59 and Johnson Avenue.
Waterford Regional Fire Department Deputy Chief Matt Covey said the house was full of stuff. "It makes it very difficult for our crews to locate the scene of the fire because there’s stuff in the way. They had to look at alternative ways to get in through the windows,” Covey said.

Local 4 talked with family members of the victim, but they declined interviews. The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said family identified the man as Gladwin Dale Evans, of Pontiac. He lived alone.

"He appears to have been a hoarder as a large amount of materials were found in the home and hampered (firefighters)," the Sheriff's Office said.

An autopsy revealed no signs of trauma to Evans' body. A toxicology report is pending.
