Driver hits man on Michigan Avenue in Southwest Detroit, dumps body in alley

Driver pulled body off car, left the scene, police say

DETROIT – Police are looking for the driver who hit a 51-year-old man Tuesday night on Michigan Avenue in Southwest Detroit and then dumped the body in an alley before taking off.

Police said Bruce Key left a party store and was crossing Michigan Avenue near Cicotte Street when he was hit by a driver in a red car.

The driver kept driving for about two blocks with the man on the windshield until the driver pulled into an alley and dumped the body, police said.

Surveillance video shows Key inside the party store, and leaving the party story.

Key's stepdaughter, Tracy Arnold, said she was watching news coverage of the hit-and-run when she noticed something.

“I saw the gym shoe in the street and I recognized the gym shoe,” she said.

Arnold said her mother called the party store to ask if Key was still there, and she was told over the phone that he had been hit.

"It's heartless," Arnold said.

Key leaves behind 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
