Man dies after being stabbed by roommate, sheriff's office says

MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 21-year-old man died Sunday after being stabbed during a fight with his roommate in a Macomb Township apartment, the Macomb County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies responded to the Northport apartments just after 1 a.m. and found the victim, Brian Dequan Shepard, suffering from a stab wound.

Shepard was taken to a hospital, but died.

His roommate, a 26-year-old man, was taken into custody.

“It was a domestic type relationship,” Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said. “Something went array and that’s what brought on the confrontation.”

Shepard had only lived there a few months.

“It was a pretty good sized knife,” Wickersham said.

Shepard’s family described him as a hardworking, positive guy.

The roommate said told deputies that he acted in self-defense. He is being held in the Macomb County Jail.
