Man accused of chainsaw theft in Ortonville turns self in, MSP says

Police: Man paid $20 to steal $450 chainsaw

ORTONVILLE, Mich. – A man previously sought by police for allegedly stealing a chainsaw has turned himself in, officers said Sunday night.

The suspect saw his photo online and surrendered, according to Michigan State Police.

Earlier in the day, investigators asked for help identifying the man, who is accused of stealing a chainsaw from a True Value Hardware store in Ortonville last month.

The man, who was caught on surveillance cameras, walked into the shop on Feb. 19 and told a clerk he was there to pick up his father’s chainsaw, which had been brought to the store for repairs, according to a news release from state police.

The clerk found the only chainsaw that been dropped off to be fixed and gave it to the suspect, who paid $20 for the repairs. The chainsaw is worth $450, the MSP said.
