Man turns himself in after 83-year-old woman dies in Detroit hit-and-run crash

Charlotte Kish hit Sunday on Outer Drive

DETROIT – Detroit police have a 19-year-old man in custody in connection to a hit-and-run crash that killed an 83-year-old woman.

Charlotte Kish was hit Sunday as she was planting flowers in the median of Outer Drive near Lamont.

Police said a silver Buick lost control and rear-ended a black Chrysler 300, which then slammed into a pickup truck that Kish was next to. Kish was thrown several feet during the impact. She died from her injuries.

The driver who caused the crash ran from the scene after it happened. Police said Wednesday that the 19-year-old had turned himself and was being held, pending charges.

Kish was known to several in the community as the flower lady.
