Fire destroys school building in Northville Township

Flames overtake Northville Montessori Center on Haggerty Road

NORTHVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A fire destroyed the Northville Montessori Center building early Tuesday morning.

Flames were reported around 6 a.m. and quickly overtook the building -- which is on Haggerty Road near 5 Mile Road.

Keith Gall's family has owned the center, which teaches students in preschool through eighth-grade, since the 1970s.

"It was after hours, so that's the best thing. I'm not that upset as long as everyone's OK. Material things can always be replaced," Gall said.

Still, it was hard for him to watch the building crumble.

"Just to see it, you know, physically. To see something like this literally go up in smoke is really tough," Gall said.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
