McDonald's to celebrate Detroit's birthday with free Boston Coolers

10,000 creamy treats are expected to be given away Sunday

DETROIT – To celebrate Detroit’s 315th birthday on Sunday, all Detroit area McDonald’s will be offering customers a free Boston Cooler.

The Boston Cooler, named after Boston Boulevard in Detroit, is a smooth, creamy treat consisting of Vernors and vanilla ice cream. Vernors is a ginger ale type soda.

The cool treats are a great way to beat the heat this Sunday, and McDonald's says that while there's no purchase necessary, there’s a limit of one per customer.

The giveaway will take place at all 28 Detroit area McDonald’s and the event will run from 1-5 p.m., while supplies last.

McDonald's expects to give away 10,000 Boston Coolers during the giveaway event.
