Medical examiner: Trenton man was strangled to death

Victim's 94-year-old mother bedridden in home days after son's killing

TRENTON, Mich. – The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled a 65-year-old man who was found killed March 11 was strangled to death.

The Medical Examiner's Office has ruled the cause of death was ligature strangulation, meaning a cord-like object was used to strangle him.

Trenton police said George Hite was strangled to death days before his body was discovered. Even more tragic, police said his elderly, bedridden mother, Agnes Hite, was inside the home when he was killed.

Last Wednesday, a caregiver went to the home 94-year-old Agnus shared with her son. When no one answered the door, the caregiver knew something was wrong and called police. Agnus had gone days without care, food or water.

Trenton police said they found no signs of forced entry into the home.

His family is now left wondering who could be capable of such a heinous crime

George's death comes a few months before he would've celebrated 50 years as a Little League umpire. His legacy in Little League has spanned decades. In fact, a field is named after his father, Woody Hite. It was a passion for the game passed down from father to son.

George Hite's funeral, which is on Wednesday, is open to public.

Investigators said the murder does not appear to be random, but they won't comment on whether robbery was a motive, or if they have a person of interest. However, they said they are pursuing several leads.

Trenton Police Chief Steve Voss said the city of Trenton hasn't had a homicide since 2005.

Michigan State Police are aiding with this murder investigation.
