Meijer in Sterling Heights evacuated after customer's 'ISIS' comment

Investigators say this was big 'misunderstanding'

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – The Meijer store at 16 Mile Road (Metro Parkway) and Van Dyke was evacuated Monday evening after a customer made a comment that an employee thought was threatening.

Police said the man was talking to a clerk when he made a comment about ISIS. The man said to the clerk, "You ever heard of ISIS?" He then left a backpack in a cart in the parking lot.

The employee later called police to report what had happened.

The store was evacuated while Michigan State Police investigated. No threat was found.

No arrests have been made.

Investigators say after speaking with the employee this appears to be one big misunderstanding.

The store is back open for business.Â
