Metro Detroit ranks 8th among best paying areas for STEM jobs, study finds

DETROIT – The Metro Detroit area ranked eighth on a list of the best-paying places for science, technology, education and math jobs, according to a study released by finance company SmartAsset.

The 2017 edition of the study showed a 3.5 percent annual increase in salary for STEM jobs in metro Detroit between 2014 and 2015.

According to the study, the average salary for STEM jobs in the metro Detroit area is $76,667. The amount was based on 2015 data collected from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The average pay for STEM jobs in the United States was $73,487 in 2015, and the annual growth between 2014 and 2015 was 1.8 percent, according to the study.

The 2016 edition of the study also had Detroit ranked as No. 8, with an average salary of $74,087 and a 3.8 percent annual increase in income between 2013 and 2014.

According to SmartAsset, the top-paying STEM jobs in metro Detroit are physicists, computer network architects and health and safety engineers.
