DETROIT – A war of words between U.S. Rep. Justin Amash, R-MI, and President Donald Trump started Thursday on Twitter.

President Trump's claim that the Freedom Caucus is threatening the Republican agenda did not sit well with Caucus member, Rep. Amash.

Reporters asked Rep. Amash if Trump's tweets serve any negotiating purpose or have any constructive purposes.

Rep. Amash told reporters that, "It's constructive in 5th grade. It may allow a child to get his way, but that's not how our government works."

President Trump has blamed the Freedom Caucus for the failure of the GOP healthcare plan.

More background here from CNN:

President Donald Trump and House Speaker Paul Ryan have gone public with their war against the House Freedom Caucus, a week after the GOP health care bill crashed amid partisan infighting.

Trump appeared to target conservative House members within his own party in a tweet Thursday morning that told his supporters "we must fight" the House Freedom Caucus as well as Democrats next year.

An impasse between House moderates and Freedom Caucus members led to the pulling of a bill last week to replace Obamacare that was supported by GOP leaders and the President. The White House accused the conservative group of moving the goalposts during negotiations and Trump has called out the group publicly over the weekend as well.
