Minivan drives into brick wall of Clawson United Methodist Church

CLAWSON, Mich. – Police are investigating after the driver of a minivan died after crashing into a church in Clawson.

A Clawson officer saw the minivan traveling at a high rate of speed at 5:15 p.m. Friday.

Police said the minivan traveled from the northwest city parking lot at 14 Mile Road and Main Street, and then traveled north across Broadacre Street and struck a parked vehicle.

The minivan then drove into the brick wall of the Clawson United Methodist Church at 205 North Main St., police said.

Clawson police found the driver unconscious and had to break the driver's window to gain access to place the car in park and shut it off. Police said officers were able to locate a pulse on the driver, but she was unconscious.

CPR was performed on the woman and she was taken to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

An autopsy is scheduled Saturday with the Oakland County Medical Examiner. The driver's identity was not provided by Clawson police.

Police said the cause of the crash still remains under investigation.
