Mom gives birth to healthy baby boy in Westland Police Department's parking lot

WESTLAND, Mich. – Hayden Laderoot made a quick, but healthy, entry into the world Thursday night when his mother gave birth to him in the parking lot of the Westland Police Department.

When Ralph Laderoot realized that he and his wife, Constance Laderoot, weren't going to make it to the hospital Thursday night to deliver their new baby boy, he called 911.

"Do you know where the police department is right up the road across from Texas Roadhouse. Is that where you're at?" the 911 operator said.

"I know where the police department is at, yes," Ralph Laderoot said on the call.

"Pull in there. I'm going to get rescue on the way, and I'll get somewhere out there," said the 911 operator. "OK, so pull in the police department lot. What kind of car are you in?"

"Hang on, honey. Oh, my God. Oh, my God," Ralph Laderoot said on the call.

"I ran out like a wild man, saying, 'Please come and help,'" Ralph Laderoot later said.

Sgt. Robert Kenyon, of the Westland Police Department, barely had time to react, because the baby was already coming.

"His head was probably about half way out," Kenyon said. "I first asked her not to push until I got some gloves on, but that didn't quite work. We had a baby within seconds."

"I looked over, and she's got the seat back, and her clothes are coming off, and the baby's head is crowning. Yeah, I was pretty scared to say the least," Ralph Laderoot said.

"I mean, I knew the baby was coming, so my concentration at that time was the baby. No matter what happened, this baby is going to be born," Constance Laderoot said.

Just like that, Hayden Adam Laderoot made his entrance into the world right in the parking lot of the Westland Police Department. He weighs 7 pounds 7 ounces. His big sister, Natasha, mom and dad are all doing fantastic. They may get to go home as early as Saturday.

"Twenty-one years from now, maybe he'll turn into a police officer, who knows," Kenyon said.
