The driver, 24-year-old Jonathon D. Schumacher from Erie, drove the Jeep Cherokee around a curve and lost control, police say. The Jeep then went left of the centerline and hit a tree in the ditch north of the road.

Gilliam was in the front passenger seat during the crash and was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in an ambulance. Her serious injuries were treated and she is listed in stable condition, according to authorities.

Schumacher was treated for minor injuries at the hospital and released.

Police say alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash, but suspect speed caused the incident.

The crash is under investigation by Monroe police.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call 734-240-7768.
