More Detroit homeowners fight back against intruders

Citizens are forced to protect themselves using guns

DETROIT – More Detroit homeowners are arming themselves and fighting back against intruders.

Citizens with guns who are ready to shoot is the new reality in the city. Three cases have been reported of residents shooting intruders in the past week. A homeowner in Detroit shot and killed two robbers breaking into his home. Residents are not afraid to pull the trigger and are holding the intruders until the police arrive.

More and more citizens are legally owning guns and using them to protect themselves and their families, said Rick Ector of Rick Firearm Academy.

"People are going to protect themselves, their tired, they have been dealing with the epidemic of violence, their afraid and they have the right to protect themselves," said Detroit Police Chief James Craig.

Citizens feel they are better protected owning their own guns and using them.
