More than 100 people protest in downtown Detroit

Protesters disrupt Noel Night festivities, some block traffic

DETROIT – About 150 people peacefully protested Saturday evening in downtown Detroit.

Downtown Detroit was the backdrop in the fight for justice as protesters marched chanting in unison. Some of the protesters chanted "Black lives matter," "I can't breathe" or "Hands up, don't shoot."

The angry protests that have happened in New York, Ferguson and other cities have now happened in Detroit.

If the protests are about starting a dialogue, it takes both sides to listen. While Local 4 was interviewing one person, a man stopped to hear what he was saying. The man declined to talk to Local 4 and walked away.

At one point, protesters blocked traffic by stopping in the middle of the street. A third-year law student said he will spend his career fighting for civil rights.
