Saturday night very cold again with clearing skies

Lows will fall to upper teens

DETROIT – Welcome to the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Weekend and North American International Auto Show's (NAIAS's) public opening! Most of it will be dry and chilly. Milder but wetter weather is on the way towards its end and afterward.

The Detroit Red Wings host the Pittsburgh Penguins at Joe Louis Arena Saturday evening. The puck drops at 7:30pm ET. Temps will be in the 20s by then.

Saturday night becomes very cold again with clearing skies. More heat will radiate into space, and lows will fall to the upper teens.

Sunday will be sunnier. Now, winter coats, gloves and hats will still be needed. Highs will be in the low to middle 30s.

Monday gets cloudier, again, with the next low pressure system. As the complex's warm front arrives, snow and freezing rain will develop and fall midday, Monday, and Monday afternoon. Then temps rise above freezing to from rain. So Detroiters must travel carefully on snowy, slushy or icy roads, at first, then use caution on wet roads while enjoying MLK Day commemorations and celebrations. Temps go from the 20s in the morning to the low 40s in the afternoon and evening.

Tuesday will be warmer but wet. Rain showers are possible with highs near 50 degrees. The warm trend continues for the rest of the week.

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be warmer than average with highs in the low and middle 40s, then in the low 50s.
