Motorcyclist killed in collision with St. Clair Shores police car

Collision not result of police chase, chief says

ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – A 20-year-old man was killed Wednesday night when his motorcycle collided with a St. Clair Shores police car.

Police Chief Todd Woodcox said the officer was attempting to make an unrelated traffic stop on 8 Mile Road near Beaconsfield Street when the vehicles collided.

He didn't specify whether the motorcycle hit the police car or vice versa. Family members have identified the motorcyclist as James Bush.

"This was a tragic accident and was not the result of a police pursuit," Woodcox said in a statement. "We cannot undo the tragedy, but can promise a full and complete investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash."

Michigan State Police are handling the investigation.
