Mott Community College closes due to 'active shooter threat'

Mott Community College announced Monday morning across social media that all locations are closed after the school received an "active shooter threat."

College spokeswoman Dawn Hibbard says the "active shooter threat" was made Monday morning and all of the Flint-based community college's locations were closed until early afternoon. The school has several satellite campuses around the state including Howell, Clio, Lapeer, Fenton and Flint.

Hibbard says the college's public safety department contacted the school's president about the threat and the decision was made to shut down the campuses.

All classes are canceled for the rest of the day, the college said, despite an earlier statement that classes would resume after 1 p.m.

Police: Caller identified

The college public safety department held a news conference later Monday morning in which they said the person who called in the threat has been identified. 

MCC Chief Theresa Stephens-Lock said the call was made about 6:30 a.m. to the local dispatch.

"The dispatch received a call and notified myself and other officers. As of right now, we have not been able to validate the threat. We have federal agencies, state police and Flint police working with us," the chief said.
