MSU receives grant, expands organic farmer training program

LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State University is expanding its organic farmer training program to help train undeveloped farmers.

MSU received a federal grant from the United States Department of Agriculture of $750,000 for their Student Organic Farm.

MSU is partnered with Michigan Food and Farming Systems, which runs the Women in Agriculture Collective Farming Initiative at Genesys Health System in Genesee County. This partnership's goals is to assist beginning women farmers succeed financially.

The grant will also develop training programs for underrepresented groups like Hispanic and disadvantaged farmers with training and site development assistance at the Farmers on the Move Cooperative in Battle Creek.

MSU will also launch new and improved programs to help farmers with land access and capital access, as well as business planning to grow their enterprise.
