ORLANDO,Fla. – The body of the 2-year-old boy who was attacked by an alligator at a Walt Disney World resort has been found, officials announced Wednesday.
Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said the toddler, who has been identified as Lane Graves, was found with his body completely intact by divers using sonar technology around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Demings said there's “no question in my mind that the child was drowned by the alligator."
An autopsy by the Orange County Medicals Office is currently underway to determine the exact cause of death.
Search for gator continues
Officials from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said that they were going to continue pulling alligators from the lagoons until they find the one responsible for the toddler's death.
Alligators will continued to be pulled from the lakes and canals surrounding the park even after the one in question is found.
Our thoughts and prayer are with this family," said Nick Wiley from The FWC. "Although we have some sort of closure, our investigation is ongoing."
The boy's parents, Matthew and Melissa Graves were visiting the Walt Disney World resort, The Floridian, when an alligator grabbed the 2-year-old and pulled him into the water.
The boy was playing at the edge of the Seven Seas Lagoon, which has signs warning visitors of swimming, but doesn't mention the threat of alligators.
His parents tried to save him.
The child's family of five was visiting from Elkhorn, Nebraska.
