Neighbors voice concerns about Ferndale nightclub

Residents concerned about noise, recent stabbing in area

FERNDALE, Mich. – Many residents who live near a Ferndale nightclub say they want it gone, and they're taking their concerns to city government to try to get Glo Nightclub shut down.

Liquor bottles, trash, cigarette butts and noise can be found on a residential street near the 22000 block of Woodward Avenue in Ferndale. It's what happens every night when Glo Nightclub opens its doors, some residents said.

"The decibel level is so high they actually wondered, 'How I could live there with that noise?' And I've had a car stolen," said Gilbert Harrison. "I've had people on my porch looking through my door late at night."

"We have cars lined up numerous along the street here," said Brian Baby. "People sitting in the car drinking and doing things that they probably shouldn't be doing on a residential street."

The club opened late last year, but people who live nearby are already sick of it.

Police said two people were stabbed in the area Tuesday night, but Local 4 spoke to a security guard at the club who disputes that.

Residents want something done and they plan to take their concerns Monday to the Ferndale City Council. They especially want to know how a liquor license could be issued to an establishment that is located across the street from an old school building and church.

"I would prefer them to be shut down completely," said Baby. "It's just not something for this area at the end of a residential street. I just don't think it's appropriate."
