Parking kiosks removed after complaints in Southwest Detroit

DETROIT – Parking kiosks are being removed in Southwest Detroit after business owners expressed their concerns to the city.

The city installed the new kiosks in six Detroit neighborhoods in September. In Southwest Detroit, they are now turned off and will be removed.

West Vernor is a growing business district where small businesses depend on customers getting in and out, but the business association says the new parking kiosks were hurting business.

The city is enforcing the parking rules in the areas that have the kiosks, and $45 tickets are being written for parking violations.

Business owners said the city wasn't making enough in Southwest Detroit on parking to support the new kiosks and that the businesses are still new and the kiosks were keeping customers away.

The city agreed to turn off the kiosks and to remove them all together.
