DETROIT – Makanzee Oldham is breathing only through a machine at St. John as doctors are preparing her organs for donations.
The pain of the shooting is felt not only by the 2-year-old's family, but the entire community, which hopes this is final child killed on the streets of Detroit.
Community members fed up with the violence and shootings of innocent children gathered on Seven Mile in Detroit.
"Man up, guns down. It's very serious. We've lost too many children. Eight in the past months, babies," march organizer Al Williams said.
The most recent is Makanzee. Home videos of the 2-year-old are moments her parents will forever cherish.
"We had a long weekend planned out for her, but unfortunately this happened," said Makanzee's father, Marcell Oldham.
3 men charged face judge
Earlier this week, Makanzee was shot. Police said Cleveland Smelley, his brother Antoine Smelley and Deonta Bennett are responsible. They were each charged with eight counts.
Cleveland Smelley is accused of pulling the trigger. Police said Bennett handed Smelley a gun after a fight broke over a drink spilled on a prom dress.
This weekend, the three men charged in the shooting made their first court appearance.

Father: 'This was senseless'
"She was a blessing. Always happy," Oldham said. "She didn't deserve it. This was senseless."
"This is a city on the turnaround," Williams said. "We're coming back and the one thing we don't need is for the state and the rest of the country to continue to see senseless violence and our babies dying in the streets."
They pressed on, realizing it's not a police issue but of the community making protecting the young a priority.
"Whether you live in the city of Detroit or you surround a city of Detroit, Detroit can not come back until this neighborhood's streets are safe," former Detroit police chief Ralph Godbee said.
