Police investigate stabbing on board Amtrak train in southwest Michigan

Man arrested in connection to stabbing in Niles near South Bend, Indiana

NILES, Mich. – Police in southwest Michigan are investigating after multiple people were stabbed on board an Amtrak train that was heading to Port Huron.

The stabbing happened Friday evening at the Niles train station on Train 364.

Four people were stabbed in the incident, according to NBC affiliate WNDU. Police did not confirm how many people were hurt or confirm the extent of their injuries.

The Niles City Police Department said it has a person in custody. The Amtrak Police Department is assisting in the investigation.

"Train 364 is the Blue Water service that travels daily between Chicago and Port Huron," Amtrak officials said in a statement. "The train was heading to Port Huron at time of incident."

Amtrak said it was working to arrange alternate transportation for 172 passengers on board the train.

Niles is located in southwest Michigan, north of South Bend, Indiana.
