School offers support for students

Ann Arbor Public Schools said support is in place and will be provided to students all day Wednesday and Thursday from counselors and district support staff.

Pioneer plans to follow up with all families and recently sent out “practical coping strategies” to students and parents.

They urge students to seek out comforting methods that are tailored each individual.

The school recommends talking with family and friends and let them know how they can help.  Writing in a journal, getting involved in art, getting an adequate amount of sleep, focusing on individual goals and exercising, they say may help with coping as well.

Students are encouraged to engage in relaxation on their own, such as taking deep breaths, counting to 10, or writing a list of people they can turn to for support.
