Man charged with murder in friend's shooting at Fraser home

Clinton Township man faces 2nd degree murder charge

FRASER, Mich. – A 33-year-old father is dead after being shot by a man who Fraser police describe as a friend.

Police said the victim, Joe Saroli, and suspect were at a third friend's home Monday evening in the 18000 block of Woodbine Street when the shooting happened.

Police say 31-year-old Matthew Magdowski, of Clinton Township, admitted to police that he had shot the victim. He was arrested at the home and is charged with second degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm. He was arraigned Wednesday and received a $200,00 bond.

Police said the victim first got the gun from a kitchen drawer, aimed it at Magdowski and ejected two live rounds. The homeowner yelled at the victim that the gun was loaded. Police say Magdowksi grabbed the gun from the victim and fired one shot at him, striking him.

The victim was rushed to a hospital, but died the next day.

The victim leaves behind a pregnant wife and two young children.

"I just know that they are close friends," said Saroli's widow, Amber Saroli. "There's no way that this could be more than an accident."

A GoFundMe has been put together for the Saroli family.
