Police: Reckless driver jumps curb in Roseville, hits 2 kids in strollers

Driver loses control of car Tuesday evening at 12 Mile Road, Pinehurst Street

ROSEVILLE, Mich. – A man squealing the tires on a car jumped the curb in Roseville Tuesday evening, hitting two young children in strollers and their mothers, police said.

Police said witnesses told them that the 22-year-old Roseville resident was speeding, gunning the engine and spinning the car's tires on Pinehurst Street at 12 Mile Road. He stopped at the intersection and did a "doughnut" in the center of 12 Mile Road before losing control of the car and hitting the victims, police said.

The mothers were knocked to the ground and the children, an 11-month-old and a 3-year-old, were thrown from their strollers, police said. All four were taken to a hospital, where the mothers and the 3-year-old were treated and released for minor cuts. The 11-month-old was admitted to the hospital with more serious cuts and scrapes, police said.

"In this case, it was because of an idiot driving like a moron," Roseville Police Chief James Berlin said. "We can't police stupidity. You must control your own stupid actions or else we could be having a totally different discussion here."

The man was charged with reckless driving, arraigned and released on a cash bond.
