Polite, 'handsome' purse snatcher roams Oakland County

'Handsome' thief targets older female victims in Birmingham, Royal Oak, West Bloomfield

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – He looks good but he acts badly.

A man described as initially polite has been grabbing purses of women in Birmingham, Royal Oak and West Bloomfield in Oakland County.

A Royal Oak couple, both in their 90s, were taking groceries out of their car Wednesday afternoon when a young black man described as handsome and polite approached them, only to rob them.

The wife, who did not want to be identified, said the polite man became threatening.

"He said give me your wallet or I'll shoot you or shoot your husband and I'll kill him. I said oh my God, don't. I said I don't carry anything with me, which I didn't. I wasn't lying," the wife said.

Her husband said the robber also tried to take the couple's car.

"He wanted the keys but I wouldn't let him. The keys were in the ignition and I wouldn't let him take the keys," the husband said.

The robber got away with some cash, The victims were not physically harmed, but the wife was shaken.

"We are both 91 years-old and we've never experienced anything like this," the wife said.

Police in West Bloomfield believe the same man confronted a woman in her garage as she got out of her car. He shoved her and took her purse, breaking the woman's finger.

The robber is described as a black man, good looking, about 6 feet tall, with a bald head.

Investigators advise anyone spotting a suspicious man matching that description should call police.
