In a newly released photo published in TIME on Thursday, a 17-year old Barack Obama can be seen wearing a classic white dinner jacket as he poses with his prom date and friends on the night of their senior prom in Hawaii.
The 1979 picture was taken inside the home of former classmate, Kelli Allman, who was the date of the president's close childhood friend, Greg Orme.

Allman said the two couples drank some champagne before going to the prom, and then an after-party. She also gave the magazine a snapshot of an entry Obama wrote to her.
You are extremely sweet and foxy," he wrote. "I don't know why Greg would want to spend anytime with me at all! You really deserve better than clowns like us; you even laugh at my jokes!"
Allman said Obama didn't date a lot in high school, but has always had that charm.
"He was very intelligent and witty. He and I really clicked. We had great vibes between us," she told TIME.
The photo will appear in the latest addition of TIME, which will be available this Friday.
